About the House
Bita Bay House is nearly 30 years old and is well built with a large great room with double french doors that open onto the beach. There are two bedrooms, one queen size bed in the master and a king size bed and 2 bunkbeds in the second bedroom. Each has its own bath. There is a queen size sofa bed in the great room. The house is equipped with beach towels, movies, games, and a good selection of books. The kitchen has every appliance and there is a charcoal grill on the porch.

Make sure you bring snorkel gear and 'boat shoes'. There is an outside shower and rinsing buckets for gear and feet.

The house is equipped with a marine radio. Although there is a phone at the house, the radio is still the main method of communication on the island. Turn on the transformer and the radio. Channel 16 is the "hailing channel" only. Once your party responds to you, switch to a "talking channel" from 9-17. Listen a bit on 16-you'll get the idea.

The VCR works and there are a dozen or so movies at the house. The satellite is not hooked up for television viewing. You can do that at home! We have a good selection of games and reading material. We encourage stimulating conversation instead.

About the Beach
Two small reefs offer great snorkeling for children and adults. Swimming to Bight of Bay Cay is fun and easy, especially at low tide. You can even spear a lobster just offshore. (Lobster season runs Aug.1 to April 1, make sure the tail is 5 1/2 inches long.)

The beach runs south almost a mile to Long Bay. From there you can take a path around the rocks and continue following the beach around Gilliams Bay to the beautiful sand bar at the southern most tip of Green Turtle Cay. The walk to the northern end of the island is delightful as well. Through coral paths and beach, you know you've reached your destination when you stand under the large cross erected at the entrance to Coco Bay and the Sea of Abaco.

Explore the island by bike, boat, or golf cart. There are no poisonous creatures and no crime. It is a safe and friendly place.

About the Town
New Plymouth is a quaint historic town with several good restaurants, shops, museums and food stores. We shop at Sids for groceries (tell Scott and Martha you are staying at Bita Bay). Biking into town is an easy 10 minute ride. Go left out of the drive and all roads lead to town. You'll pass the Albert Lowe Art Gallery - a nice visit.

You'll also pass the Roosters Rest at the hill just before town. The Gully Roosters band plays on weekends (after 10.00pm…ish) and is a local treat of island music.

You can buy bait at the house across from the main ferry dock. There is a sign out front. If they are out for some reason. Go to L&M Seafood and buy some frozen conch. That works too.

While in town visit the famous Blue Bee Bar opposite the basketball court. The best Goombay Smash anywhere. Only open during the day.

The liquor store, The Plymouth Rock, is located at the end of Parliament Street. Good wine and rum selection.

Restaurants on the Island
Laura's Kitchen - best seafood value, casual. Open for lunch and dinner. Best to phone or radio for dinner menu and reservation. Cracked conch is to die for!
MacIntosh Bakery - casual, serves breakfast too.
New Plymouth Inn - Comfortable dining in a wonderfully restored historical Inn downtown. Reservation needed
Green Turtle Club - (go right out of the drive 5 minutes down the road ends at the Club.) Elegant dining by reservation.
Bluff House - on the northern end of the island past the Club, need to follow the coral road. Accessible by boat or golf cart.

Pineapples at the Other Shore Club- Water front bar and grill with salt water pool. Casual lunch and dinner with DJ several nights a week.
Sun Downers- Downtown on the Sea of Abaco. Casual local bar with Key West flavor, and great sunsets. Easily accessible by boat or golf cart,

Plymouth Rock - is the liquor store and has a lunch counter as well. Nice art gallery too.

Fishing and Guide Recommendations
Lincoln Jones is the Daniel Boone of the Bahamas. A day with Lincoln will long be remembered. He'll take you on his boat snorkeling and fishing and then cook the catch on the beach for a great shore lunch. Hail Lincoln on channel 16, his handle is "I Lost It" or ask Leslie or Julie to make arrangements.
Ricky Sawyer is an excellent fishing guide, on the flats for bonefish or on the reef for grouper and snapper. His handle is "Playmate". If you have trouble reaching him or anyone else, ask Leslie or Julie for assistance.
Brendal Stevens is the local divemaster. For scuba or snorkeling hail Brendal's Dive Shop on the radio. His wife Mary runs the dive shop and will make the reservations for you.

How to get There
US Air and Gulfstream(Continental) both fly daily to Treasure Cay from the Florida east coast airports. Air Sunshine is a commuter line that flies daily to Treasure Cay from Ft. Lauderdale only. Upon arrival at the airport (passport or raised seal birth certificate required for entry), taxi one mile to the ferry dock for a 10 minute ride across the Sea of Abaco to Green Turtle. The ferry has a regular schedule. No reservations are needed. Tell the ferry captain you are staying at Bita Bay House and he'll take you to the right dock where Leslie or Julie will meet you.

Enjoy your stay at Bita Bay House and Green Turtle Cay!
