Kerensa was carefully designed to have minimal impact on its beautiful natural setting and take full advantage of the stunning panoramic views over the Islands and Bays of the North Shore. Far away from other houses, the only sounds you’ll hear are the waves on the rocks below....By combining colourful Caribbean style with quirky antiques and flea market finds from Europe the owners have created an aesthetic, highly individual dwelling that delightfully complements the spectacular location. The house is simple, comfortable and well equipped with one bedroom, a bathroom, dining area and a kitchen / living room together with a covered verandah, a brick courtyard and wooden decks around an infinity edge pool and hot-tub area. Close by are the world class beaches of Brewers Bay (3 minutes by car) which features an uncrowded half mile of golden sand and superb snorkeling and Cane Garden Bay (10 minutes) with its’ famous beach and plethora of lively bars and restaurants. Kerensa is centrally situated to explore the island. Roadtown is 15 minutes over the hill on the South Shore. Access from the public road is along a ¼ mile unpaved track (a 4WD vehicle is advisable) and parking has been deliberately sited away from the house to preserve the natural ambience with a series of steps (39 to be precise!) leading down to the house. The kitchen area in the main room features traditional clay tile floors and custom-made hardwood cabinets and comes well-equipped with a large stainless steel fridge/freezer (with ice maker/ water purifier), professional Wolf range, double sink, microwave and a Francis espresso machine. The main room is also furnished with a Victorian sofa and Love seat with an antique Afghan cedar cupboard that conceals an array of high-end equipment including dvd/cd player, 23” LCD TV, a top specification Bose surround sound system and a collection of 100+ DVD’s. There is no cable TV (a deliberate decision!) but a wireless internet card (up to 256kb) for a laptop allowing unlimited internet access is available for rent. The living room opens onto an 8’ wide covered deck with a dining table, Hammock and a folding “Bowflex” exercise Gym. Steps lead from the verandah down to the pool deck and lawn. The dining room is open on two sides and is furnished with a Mexican table and old English chapel chairs. The bedroom has its own private balcony and features polished wooden floors, an old French crystal chandelier and a queen size custom-made four poster bed. There is an antique childs bed which doubles as a sofa in an open annex to the main bedroom. Adjoining is a bathroom with a unique inside/outside shower, and an ancient marble hand-basin re-claimed from a Turkish Bath house. There is also a walk-in storage closet adjacent to the bedroom. The 12’ x 20’ x 6’ pool has a “vanishing” edge on two sides with a seating bench that runs along the length of the pool. An innovative sanitation system purifies the water without requiring the addition of chlorine and leaves water crystal clear and clean with virtually no taste. The pool also has a solar heating system if required. Adjoining the pool and deck is an open area of level lawns bordered by recently planted palms and other tropical plants. Apart from the access road and parking area the rest of the 2 acre property is untouched, with mature indigenous vegetation. To the rear of the house is a courtyard of traditional Dominican bricks with a gas barbecue. From here a series of natural stone steps leads up through the rocks and trees to a very private, 39 jet, hot tub (with a host of modes, settings and lighting effects) that is built into the boulders. A terracotta Mexican chiminea fire-place on the Jacuzzi deck adds even more to the romantic ambience..
