Payment and Cancellation Policy
Once you've phoned or e-mailed your reservation and been advised SummerSalt
is being held/reserved for you, a TWO-WEEK "Hold" is allowed for receipt
of a deposit equal to 50% of the rental fee, excluding the 7% hotel
tax and security deposit. Upon receipt of the rental deposit, we'll
either fax or email your confirmation. If after two weeks, we've not
received your deposit, your "Hold" may be subject to cancellation
without further notice. The initial payment of one half the rental
fee will confirm and guarantee your reservation. The balance of rent,
hotel tax and security deposit, is due no less 45 days prior to your
arrival. Your first payment (deposit payment) will be applied toward
the total rent amount due.
All Cancellations MUST be made in writing and will be honored if
made 45 days prior to your arrival, less a 20% service charge. Cancellations,
for whatever reason, made within 45 days of your arrival are subject
to forfeiture of 100% of your total rent, unless we're able to re-book
your rental dates. Naturally, we'll make every effort to fill the
dates so a full or partial refund can be made to you. Refund arrangements
depend largely on the amount of notice given to us of the cancellation,
and on the time of the year. For peace of mind, we recommend cancellation
insurance, available through your travel agent. No refunds may be
given for early departure, unless there is a problem which cannot
be resolved within 24 hours of notification or causes our guest's
extreme undue discomfort or serious inconvenience.
About the House
SummerSalt, designed by well known local architectural firm,
Smith Arneborg Architects, is situated on a quiet acre at the end
of a very private road with panoramic views out over the center of
Smuggler's Cove to Jost Van Dyke, Little Jost Van Dyke, Sandy Cay,
Green Cay, and the Kingkish Banks beyond. Smuggler's Cove, where they
filmed the remake of "The Old Man and the Sea" is just 5 minutes (really!)
down a private path. Soper's Hole (& West End ferry dock), Long Bay
Beach and Resort, Little Apple Bay, and Frenchman's Cay are each no
more than 15 minutes away by car.
Belmont Estate is a private residential area located above a palm
grove and Smuggler's Cove Beach on the northwest coast of Tortola,
an idyllic spot about as far from the hustle and bustle as one can
get. Estate roads aren't paved but are certainly passable. As there
are several lovely beaches more easily accessible, Smuggler's is usually
quiet and less visited than most.
SummerSalt is one of a just handful of private villas located
on a dead-end road (no one seems to remember it's name) branching
off the main estate road. From the intersection at the top, our road
looks more like a private drive than a road and so gets little traffic
beyond it's residents. SummerSalt is the last house and, except
for an occasional lost tourist looking for the road to Smuggler's,
almost no one ventures down our way. Surprisingly, SummerSalt
is just a couple hundred yards above Smuggler's Cove (5 minutes down!)
but well off the beaten path.
Designed for fun, easy living, SummerSalt is one of Tortola's
first privately owned villas offering air-conditioned bedrooms and
is furnished to the highest standard with your holiday comfort in
mind. Includes are two villas allowing flexibility for extended family
gathering and/or group rentals while providing privacy for all.
The main villa has a large covered dining porch, expansive
living room with a dramatic vaulted ceiling and multiple sets
of wide French doors opening to the dining porch and covered verandah
overlooking Smugglers' Cove, the Jost channel, out islands, and down
island views of Cane Garden Bay. The living room and fully equipped
kitchen are connected by a 12-foot long custom-made mahogany bar/peninsula.
The professionally designed kitchen is laid out to accommodate several
"chefs" working simultaneously while enjoying the party. It contains
a large stove, prep sink, custom mahogany cabinets, large side-by-side
automatic ice making refrigerator with in-the-door water and ice dispenser,
coffee machine, toaster oven, blender, corian counters, and enough
pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and silverware to easily feed a large
gathering. Don't want to tackle dirty dishes while the party is still
going strong? Just shift everything to the work pantry containing
a large double sink, dishwasher, microwave oven, more counters, cabinets
& storage.
The master bedroom, located in the main villa, has wide French doors
opening to the veranda, a king-sized bed, and private master bath
with an even more private outdoor stone shower with views of Smuggler's
and the channel beyond. The lower level has 2 bedrooms (king sized
bed or 2 extra long twins in each) and a shared hall bath. All three
main house bedrooms are air-conditioned and have custom-made mahogany
wardrobe/closets and wide French doors opening to Smuggler's Cove.
The master suite/guest
house villa has it's own cozy living room with custom mahogany
cabinets and kitchen (cook top, microwave, refrigerator, sink, toaster
oven, coffee machine and blender), private covered dining porch, air
conditioned bedroom (queen) and private bath. And the master/suite/guest
kitchen is well stocked with it's own set of pots, pans, dishes, glasses,
and silverware for those quiet drinks and romantic meals.
Each of SummerSalt's two villas is equipped with a combination
TV/VCR, CD stereo system, hotel safe, telephone number, and alarm
clock in each bedroom. In addition, the main house has an Bose outdoor
speaker system, combination fax /answering machine, cordless telephone
and a collection of movies and CDs, each with about 30 titles, as
well as an extensive books collection. Every room and vantage point
offers unique and breathtaking views of Smuggler's Cove, Jost Van
Dyke, Sandy Cay, and the other islands.
If a 5 minute walk down to Smuggler's is just too far to go then
slip into SummerSalt's cocktail/dipping pool located on the
shellstone terrace between the two villas (shellstone is naturally
compressed prehistoric beach imbedded with bits of shell and sea creatures).
The open terrace, located just off the dining porch, has chaise lounges,
chairs, a BBQ alcove, outdoor shower, beautiful stone walls, and native
landscaping. The pool has a build-in bench for access and lounging
the day away. The covered dining porch is situated to catch the glorious
sunset beyond Gun Point and Great Thatch Island and a large mahogany
dining table, plenty of chairs, and outdoor Bose speakers make Limen'
the night away easy to do.
SummerSalt sleeps 8 comfortably (4 large bedrooms) and all
rooms are situated to catch the soft Caribbean breezes and unforgettable
views. Beautiful Mexican tile floors, casual furnishings, and ceiling
fans will make your stay an easy carefree one, just the way a dream
tropical vacation should be.
Weekly maid service (sparkling clean for your arrival & again mid
week) is included and an on-island manager is close by to lend a hand
but only when you decide you'd like assistance.
Taxi and/or rental cars, food & liquor/wine provisions, a chef,
or daily maid service can be arranged to ease your stay. Wonderful
local shops, fun bars, and several great restaurants are located close
by.
You have the option of renting the main house only or both villas
for larger parties. Rent only the main house and your privacy is assured……we
never rent the guesthouse to a separate party. Or rent both villas
and share it with your friends and family. Either way, make SummerSalt
your island home. Go ahead and, as they say in the BVI, "Nice
it up!" You deserve it.
